James Paterson – Femmes Fatales

16.11.11 - 18.12.11

Heartbreak is delighted to be presenting our first exhibition of paintings by James Paterson.

Drawn from Paterson’s interest in pulp fiction and the over-dramatic artworks associated with this literary genre, the imagery has been re-imagined using a pop art sensibility. The figures in Paterson’s paintings have have been taken from original photographs in 40’s and 50’s pulp detective magazines, they have then been transformed and reworked into the covers for imaginary pulp novels, with the artist as their fictional author.
